Stay thirsty my friends
So, I have a pension for older vehicles. And one that I have is my tow vehicle. A 1997 GMC K2500. It sure isn't pretty, but I have always thought GM did a nice job with the GMT400 series of trucks. this is my second one and even sold my '03 2500HD crew cab and went back to the OBS truck style.
One thing I didn't miss was the lack luster performance of the 5.7 Vortec, I mean after having a 6.0 in the '03 and one in the Denali, there is a night and day difference.
So the '97 has developed a cold start knock and I took the occasion to get an unfinished project motor off craigslist and tear it down and go through it again and do some mods. So this is one of the engines I did over this long winter.
Here it is...all done
It's now a 383 stroker vortec with eagle crank ,stock rods, speed pro coated skirt pistons small base circle 212/218 .494 lift roller cam. Upgraded injector spider, worked over vortec heads with screw in studs and LT1 valve springs.
I'm hoping it will wake the truck up enough to rival the Denali's pulling ability.
