2009 GS Nationals

As long as the weather is good I'll be there! May can be a very rainy month so I pretty much make up my mind a few days before. I do have a room on reserve at the Durry Inn. Not sure what car I'm going to take yet.

Looks like it's going to rain everyday. again this year, again.... They should move this thing to either April or June. You'd think they'd learn.:bash:

Another reason I pulled the plug last night.. I'm not driving 12 hours to sit in the rain all weekend. Well there is always Ohio in August! We really need to get more TTA's out to that event!

And thats where we should be going, not the buick nationals where we are looked down upon - hopefully we can get some more TTA guys out there, either way I'll be in the Anniversary Trans Am class at the Trans Am Nationals this year with #124 :)

And dont forget Pontiac day at etown June 20th for those of us in the north east (along with Pontiac vs The World Friday night June 19th for those of us that like to race ;) )

You guys think that's the case? I've always wondered about that? I'm only exposed to a couple GN's and by in large they are "decent" about the TTA to me. I mean they fain interest when the hood is up, but I get the sense it's just a Trans am to them.

...
:eam:

I'm going to take the TTA to a Corvette themed show this weekend...how do you think they will like me there??
:burnrubber:

The Buick Nationals look down upon many. There is a lot of dram involved in that event. They try VERY hard to NOT include the younger crowd there. I'm sure in the near future that event will go away. It's always a rainy time of the year and that place floods out bad. I like the area and the time of year in Bowling Green and if you go to just walk around and enjoy the cars you see then it's fine. As far as I'm concerned the racing and car show is all about who you know and who you are depending on what happens.

I've been to the BPG event in Ohio twice now and I really enjoyed myself there. It can be a hot time of the year but it's not that bad. I liked the event and people. Hopefully some of you guys can get your TTA's out there. I think last year Jason was the only one there with his TTA.

As far as going to a Corvette themed show hopefully they are a little different in that part of PA because around here if I see a Corvette themed show or a show or cruise ran by any Corvette club I will not go. Every Corvette owner I ever met was a real first class jerk off and thought they and their shit vette was gods gift from heaven. I took the TTA to a huge show 2 years ago ran by a corvette club. Went in the stock class and found only 5 cars in my class. Now keep in mind I could care less about anyone's $5 trophy they give out but I like to have my cars judged and as long as they are judged fair and accurate I'm happy. It usually gives me ways to improve or sometimes I find myself actually schooling the judges on the cars to make sure they know what they are looking at. Anyways the other 5 cars in my class were 4 vettes and one Ford. Out of the 4 vettes in my class one of them was "ok" at best. Not detailed well but "ok" The other 3 were turds showing rust and not detailed at all. The Ford in my class should have been in a junk yard for the most part. So they give out trophies and I came in 3rd! The vette that came in 2nd did'nt even have his friggin hood open!! The vette that came in first had rust popping out of the quarters!! So yea.. vette owners and their cars can kiss my ass :) I'll never go to another one ran by any vette club. Most of them looked at the TTA like Pontiac's biggest mistake. Let us know how you make out! ;)

WOW, PTS you sure are passionate about vette clubs and vette shows. That sucks that a car with rust got a better placement than your TTA just because it was a corvette. I am in a corvette club and most of the guys are pretty cool, but yes....... there is always ATLEAST ONE know it all jack ass in the group.

This is the event and my question was rather a rhetorical one. 2 years ago I took the Can am and was roundly escorted to the remote field with the rest of the "infidells"...who don't drive Vette's.

But hey, it's a nice small show even if I'm not a believer...

I've been going since 1990. I never noticed getting looked down upon. Remember that out of the box TTA's trump a GN by a car and half at least. Actually, those old farts may have been jealous if anything. I was younger and my car was faster (usually against street GNs anyway) and prettier.

Back in the day, it wasn't uncommon to talk to Lawrence Conley (tweaked) or Ken Duttweiler. They were nice to me and I was obviously too young to buy any of their performance parts. I sold 2 paintings to Conley and sold over 400 Buick t-shirts out of the back of the TTA that I designed. It was pretty fun in the mid 90's. The crowds were way bigger.

For the most part the GN crowd was welcoming, more so than the chevy crowd. That is what most f bodies of late are powered by...I actually felt shunned at the last camaro firebird show held at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green a few years ago. Those dudes gave me no rep, they looked at the motor and moved on..."that crazy hippie swapped out his 350 for some weird lookin motor, oooohhh, too many hoses and connectors for ol V8 lovin me".. haha.
They dismiss it, until I catch them at the lights on the way out of town.

The TTA is kind of a red headed step kid, it's a hybrid. That's what makes it cool. I like the GN event cause you get to learn about what all the really fast guys are doing. Also, usually the vendors have some new candy to drool over. Since I live in the general area and know the town (went to school there) I actually like cruising around at night after the show waiting for street races.

You can't really throw people in a box and label them dicks cause of what they drive anyway. People suck cuz of themselves, not cuz of what they drive. Some of the coolest people drive Toyotas

It's going to rain all weekend anyway. So piss on it. :bye2:

I've only owned TTA's scince 1998 and tried to be invoved with the events, going to several including Buicks at Bristol for the TTA class. That was the only time I remember having an actual TTA race class and I think I'm the only person who raced that class that still owns a TTA :)

Anyway I've always felt the guys running the show, the GS guys usually, kind of frowned upon the Turbo Buicks and they along with the GS guys seemed to frown upon the TTA being around, imagine a Pontiac in a Buick event

Maybe the show scene is different but thats how I felt about the racing aspect of it, and was basicly told I could come down and make time runs or enter brackets - which I can do locally with better competition and payouts.

Anyway I've always felt much more welcome at Pontiac events and I guess I'm more of a Pontiac guy than a Buick guy - if I could have either the Turbo Buick V6 or the Trans Am GTA body I'd ditch the engine in a Heartbeat ;)

Just my $.02

Bg is a great place to learn about our motors, alot of them are willing to let u in on what they have done to their cars. All i know is that we should just get our event going every year. This would be a great year to start our own event, who cares about how many shows up,we got to start somewhere. I think somewhere in the midwest would be a great starting place. We our in our own class, not many of us and thats what makes our car special. Our cars weren't made just to go straight , ill race any gn on any roadcorse and on the street and they wouldn't have a chance keeping up. Our cars out preform them over all. We need to do our own event and people will show up more and more every year.

Where do you want to have it? Needs to be some where that has a dragstrip or something and stuff to do besides stare at the cars. Nashville Super speedway has a thing on some weekends where they rope off a 1/8 mile on the inner part of the track and they have someone flag the cars.
More like street racing. No tree and time slips, but still fun. There is also stuff to do in town after.

Sounds good to me, we just need to do something together. Im tierd of having to depend on other clubs to hold a show that we are aloud to be at. Yeah we need to be on a track of some sort.

We really should have a yearly event at this event...

I'm very good friends with the people that run this event and I could have a TTA class set up very easily for racing or showing. It's a nice time of the year usually maybe a little on the hot side and the area ain't that bad. BG is an ok event but it's been dropping year by year and they do nothing there to get the younger people into it. They are old and think old. BPG event is all about anything. I'll be there this year. If you guys really want to make BPG a yearly meeting place for TTA's I'll even haul mine out there! :)
