#124's maiden show (Crooked Hill)

After deciding to take Turbo Trans Am #124 on Hot Rod Power Tour this year I decided it needed some help. After 20 years, 74,745 miles, and several owners the car was now 4 shades of white, leaking several oils, brakes and suspension were worn, rear wing was cracked, and badly fading purple tint. So in January I started taking it apart and dropped it at the body shop 1-30-09.

Picked it up all painted 3-15-09 and started putting it back together and repairing all the mechanical issues. Got new shocks/struts, new brakes and rotors, new wheels from Classic Industries and new BFG tires, repaired the power antenna and radio, fixed the oil leaks, and basicly repaired, replaced, or refurbished everything as it went back together. Only thing left really are to replace an a/c shrader valve and get that working along with another good cleaning of the interior, otherwise it's running like a new car again

So I decided it was time to get her out a bit and headed to Crooked Hill Rd Sat night car show/cruise, sadly I only saw one other thirdgen - a nicely done tubbed yellow IROC that I've seen before at Captree.

Any more photos from the teardown and respary? Looks like you did pretty much what I did with mine ... take it you installed new weatherstripping etc at the same time?

You didn't happen to find any buildsheets in the car did you?

These cars look so much better with new paint rather than the 20 year old stuff that wasnt that good even new

Yes it was kind of quick but I tried to do it the best I could. There are still a few things, like recovering the steering wheel, shifter, and parking brake handle that will not get done before the Power Tour but should be done by the Trans Am Nationals in August. I have alot of pictures, the place that did the work is not a resto shop but the owner is a car guy and he has at least one project car in the shop at all times. He documented the whole project and was emailing me pics along the way, and gave me a disc with a bunch of pics on it when I picked the car up.

I installed alot of new parts, including new weather strip, t-top bar, windsheild, emblems, and decals.

I only found one buildsheet, and it got wet at some point

Same here, I'm going to use the next month to drive it, take it to shows, and work out any bugs before I leave for Indy June 4th - I plan to make a stop at Indy Motor Speedway on the way to Madison

Figure take a Festival car home again :cheers:

Molding, Camaro/Firebird New 82-92 Body Side Molding

They are an aftermarket molding and need to be cut to length. They are almost identical in thickness and the contour is perfect.

About $5,000 for paint and the minor body work the car needed, but the total cost to do this car so far is more than double that not including my labor hours. It's alot of money to spend but when I take it out and get that feeling that I'm driving something really special and I had my hands in it to make it what it is... well it makes it all worth it
