How can I authenticate a TTA 20th I'm lloking at?

Hi and welcome to the site ... I moved your post into it's own thread.
The easiest way to identify if it's a real TTA or not is by the 3 digit in the VIN
All TTA's and only the TTA's start with 1G5 .... 3rd digit 5 being key as any regular Firebird's TA's GTA's Formula's would have a 2 in this position.
The 5 will not show up normaly when you do a VIN decode as the 5 means "in complete vehicle" by GM as the TTA was built and waranted by PAS Inc.
Atherwise, engine/trans combo unique, rear seatbacks only shared iwht the notchbacks, rear duel stainless exhaust tips, emblems, boost gauge inside of the rve (rpm) gauge and a few other things that stand out.
But easiest is to verify the 5 in the VIN.

Sorry Jan i lost the feed. He claims this is Festival Car #122. Anything special in terms of documentaion or VIN info relative to these cars? The Indy 500 liscense plate that is still on the car reads Pace Car #114. Why the difference, in other words why not #122? He say's never liscensed and has only 1008 miles. Vin you posted confirmts it's a festival car ... if it's festival car 122 or not I have no record of for that VIN so cant tell I'm afraid.
I suspect he picked up the pace car license plate later in the cars life (ebay??) as none of the cars came with the license plates when sold after used at Indy ... but you are right if it's festival car 122 then the license plate would have been 122 as well.
The car in general is a very ealry build (number 19 of the 1550) and is a real festival car with cloth interior and t-tops.
Ask him if he got any documentation to confirm the festival car number ...
A photo of the VIN would be good and you might also want to run a Carfax on it ....

thanks again for your help. The pictures clearly indicate cloth interior and t-top. I'm confused when you say that you have no record for that VIN?? He mentioned that the car was sold in a dealership in his home town in Indiana, is it possible to trace VIN's to a point of sale (ie. the dealership it was sold at) as i think this would lend some credence to his claim. In Canada GM offers history detail on Canadian Sold cars as i did this for my '68 Camaro and included was the dealership it sold at. I'll try the car fax route but if it was never liscensed would it show up? Can't tell you how much i appreciate your time. Do you know how to work this thread into an area of the site where i may get some feedback from others -this is my first forum so i'm a bit green at it.

Just a little tid-bit if it hasn't been mentioned already..........
if I am thinking about this right, all of the festival cars had a 'hand-written' number underneath the rear license plate.......usually in a black marker, or something along those lines..........have him check underneath the rear license plate and see if there's still a number there........that would be the 'clincher' to me, and that would definitely prove that it was at Indy!

Rob, no what I said was I have no record of the festival car number to that VIN
Vin is correct and is in my list as I mentioned, the dealer was Coral Pontiac-GMC Inc. in Indiana one of 3 preping the festival cars for GM ....As pointed out ask him to see if the festival car number is written behind the rear license plate (might been wiped off years ago but still there it will confirm the number assigned by Indy to that TTA to keep track of it.

I'm a new member and i am in the market for a similar car(s). 2 are Canadian cars and the owner is unsure of which one he wants to sell - one with 1000 mIles and one with about 30K miles. I am very certain of the history as i have known the cars since they were purchased. I am also looking at a Festival Car with very low miles on it (1000) - don't know the owner and the car is in the states. Could you shed a bit of light on what the market is dictating for prices on these ?? :dumb:
