When will GM learn? They are starting off all wrong with the Camaro! It’s almost as if they want it to fail, like with the GTO. No advertising , or at least none that I’ve seen, none of my local dealers are carrying any. One even stated they would not order any for at least a year so they can see how sales will be. They supposedly took a bath on 4th gen camaros, yet I hardly ever noticed any on their lot???? And now this http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=148866 This is crazy, why even bring back the car if your going to do it half assed? If they are going to continue like this then they deserve to fail. I grew up liking the Pace car replicas, some people think they are gaudy or obnoxious but, I like them I’ve owned 2 and might have considered this one.:disgust:

I agree that the decal package this time around is not one of their finer graphic schemes, but that is not my point. My point is, for years manufacturers have used the fact that Indy chooses a car and the manufacturer uses that to advertise and promote the vehicle/product line. Take the two adds for our cars for instance, the one add promoted excitement for the whole Pontiac line, generated from the TTA. The second point is collectability. What will be more desirable a replica of a movie car, or a pace car? Lets put it this way, most of the demographic that Transformers appeals to, wont be able to afford a new Camaro and the rest can’t even drive yet. The demographic that the pace car would appeal to more than likely will not even see the movie, or know who/ what the hell Bumblebee is unless they have kids. Pace cars have always had more collector appeal than movie replicas, unless its an actual prop car. I just feel that GM and Chevy are starting off on the wrong foot with this one and this may be their last chance to get it right, look what happened to Pontiac.

I can try to see the point but you can also make the same comparison with the 83 pace car trans am, most ppl would much rather have a knight rider replica

For the 500-1000 of them they might sell its not worth the extra overhead or development cost, its better off to let some aftermarket company just make the decal replicas, I think they are going to do just fine with the Camaro, its 2 years from now when everyone has one that wants one that will tell the real story
 
I think GM is been doing things wrong for years now. I would buy a 4th gen f-body but would not buy a 04-05 GTO. But I have seen a lot of camaros at a local dealership. But they also have at least on ZR1, 4-5 ZO6's.
 
Theres been some poor decisions as far as design and choices in which nameplates would be offered. I think the biggest improvement with GM over the past 10 years is the engines, they are solid, powerful and fuel efficient. GM has the best line of engines in the industry.

Look at whats out there as far as 4s the ecotec is the BEST on the market hands down. I've owned 2 of them myself, they love boost and beg for more, the power they put out on stock internals is amazing. Obviously as far as V8s theres never been anything better than the LSx. As far as V6s the new direct injection engines are as good as anything on the market.

Now with all these great engines they have made very poor choices in which cars they offer. Things like the GTO, SSR, G5, G3, Aveo, Aztek, Malibu Maxx, these are simply cars that should have never ever been made. GM didn't do the wrong thing by getting rid of the Fbody, they were simply not strong sellers. Theres reasons for that, obviously we are in a time in which RWD is not practical for most people, people want cars that are more fuel efficient, you don't get that either with RWD.

GM wasn't willing to make the changes that Ford is willing to with the Mustang. Changes such as going to a turbo V6 engine as they will be with the Ecoboost engine and moving to smaller displacement V8s such as the new DOHC 5.0 engine. Gm could have easily made this change in the early 90s they already had an excellent platform in the Buick 3.8. They instead wanted to use cheap V8s that were less powerful and less mpg.

By clinging so hard to tradition they have doomed themselves into making any future traditions because they may not be in business.
 
I still think by not offering a limited run pace car camaro as the first real collectible, Chevy is making another mistake. As far as people not wanting V8 rear drive, explain the SUV craze, also the Chrysler 300 and Doge chargers sold like mad.
