Anyone know if there is a way to get a tach/boost gauge for these cars?? My boost gauge stopped working and I've traced it to the gauge it must be the problem.
Thanks
Where are you located in Indiana? I'm normally in West Lafayette during the school year and then the South Bend area for the summers.
The gauges are electric so did you check and make sure you're getting power to the gauge? You're going to be looking at paying a pretty hefty price for a replacement cluster. You might want to look into places that rebuilds and repairs them to get an idea of what it will take to go that route before replacing it.
If I were to guess you're going to look at paying around $700 for a used cluster with an odometer which is going to be incorrect. You're title will be marked mileage exempt for anyone who buys the car, and the mileage probably won't match up on a carfax. I can't even remember the last time I saw a cluster go up for sale, probably like 3-4 years ago. I know there are a couple people who have spares in their collection but the sky's the limit on the price.
That should have been one of the first things that you checked. That's where the gauge gets it's readings from and it's a sensor so it can easily be faulty.
I agree, the gauge is rarely bad. I think I have only ever heard of 1 maybe 2 cars where the gauge was actually bad, but lots of people having problems with the MAP or wiring. Start checking everything and eliminating them before you look consider the gauge being bad, you'll save yourself a lot of money and headaches.
