Suspension-Question?

TTAGUY

Well-Known Member
Got a couple questions about SFC's, PanHard Bar, Trailing Arms, and Springs. I looked on the 3thGen forums, but I want to see from TTA owners, what they tried, and worked. Ok not yet sure if I'm going to lower the TTA, but if so what springs. On my GTA I put in Eibach's, but can't remember is they were SportLine or ProKit.

Ok so what springs? Then if I do lower her, what Trailing Arms and PanHard Bar Kit? I know Adjustable, and their some good companies out there, but what is on your car?

As alot of members seen, I bought AGX's adjustable struts and shocks. Now what about SFC's? On my GTA I put in ones that were boxed, and tied in to the Lower Control Arms, but I can't remember the company.

Also on the GTA I used Hotchkis LCA's and PanHard Bar, that was the best back then, years ago.

So.....
If I lower her what springs, LCA's, & PanHard Bar?
If I don't lower her then what LCA's & PanHard Bar?
What SFC's, with 3" DP?
What Springs?
Also what Wonder Bar?

I know this must of been asked a million times, but this is my first TTA.
Goal is stiff ride, low 12's to maybe into the 11's.
But mostly want a highway car. Please any info is great info.

Thanks Marcel

I went with BMR chromolly pan hard and METCO lca .... metco is billet aluminum an i got great 60fts stock with the gn so i put them on the TTA . Stock shocks with 2 airbags lakewood 90/10 struts and 50/50 rears .... 3.5 wide front ride 100 times better then factor front wide wheels

i got a new laptop so my w and y works now lol

Thanks tta299, it has airbags on her. I'll check out metco forgot about them. I'm just looking for a solid ride, not to worried about best 1/4 mile times. I'll work on that when I get to the engine compartment.

I did decide not to lower her, so it won't be to much work to get her square again, so LCA's, PanHard Bar, and SFC's, with Wonder Bar. Anybody else got something that works street wise?

I use UMI's rear adjustable panhard bar (adjustable useful even if not lowered so you can centre the rearend), IMU's LCAs ...

I had custom SFC's made for mine that are very similar in design to Sphon's SFC's just with some additional cross bracing.

Also had a custom wonderbar done as some can get a standard one to fit installed upside down but with the IC and fan brackets its very tight so had a custom one made that fits much better ... also had a custom strut tower brace made for it with the side brackets (bolt onto the strut towers) from UMI performance but the center bar custom made to fit the TTA.

Another thing to consider is to upgrade the stock rubber bushings on the swaybar's (and end links) as well the the front A-arms with poly bushings as this really helps stiffen things up and reduce flex.

Biggest difference I could feel on my t-top where the SFC's ...

This car I have has a very inpressive ride and drive to it. The suspension is great and you have no squeaks or rattles usually associated with the unibody or the t-tops. It is a tight old car with a good ride to it. I got other opinions on it from 2 other shop owners that drove it and they felt the same way.

The exotic brand on there is AC Delco, oh I am sure it was probably replaced with new parts at some point in time. So, the ride and drive is great and I won't change it.

The only thing I am going to do is to add SFCs.

Thanks Jan, I like the Umi stuff, think i'll go kinda like your set up, but of course without the custom made stuff. your the man! And also yes forgot about the swaybar poly bushing, greaseable, and poly endlinks, A-arms might have to wait a bit, had the car 2 weeks and driven her for 10 mins only! So Im rushing, lol.

Jan if you can/want can you post pics underneth, and engine bay or email them to me? Really would love to see the set up.
Thanks Marcel

Copt that Mike, but I just cant have stock, to me theres always room for improvement, but they are tight stock. What SFC's are you useing?

Photos of my SFC's ... from the fabrication and mockup and as installed ...

Only thing I have changed since is the brace just above the catalytic converter, at the time I just had a test pipe with more clearnece however I installed a hollowed cat and had to change the tube brace to just a flat one for additional clearence ...

Very nice Jan. I like hoe they bolt in to the LCA's. And 2 braces to the front front frame. Thank you for sharing. Now can you make and sell them, lol? :toot:

And the Strut Tower Brace (STB) ... bought the bits from UMI and had the bar custom made ... photos been renamed so you see what was bought from UMI etc.

Webshots Rides offers thousands of the best car wallpapers.

And here's UMI's version ... 1987 - 1992 GM F-Body Adjustable Strut Tower Brace [2008] - $189.99 : UMI Performance, Inc.

If I were to do it again I would get the parts unwelded from UMI then weld the mounts so I could have the bar done more straight as I had to get it bent back then forward again due to the way UMI do their V8 versions ..

The guys I use for this over here speciallize in 3rd Gen stuff and their other business i custom bike frames so when it comes to bending tubes, welding etc these guys knows what they are doing.

To make and sell any of these would not be profitble for anyone involved, and shipping from the UK would cost way too much I'm afraid; and they would need to build proper fixtures etc which would up the cost as well.

Very nice and clean, congrats for a very well taken care car!
