Shift problems on my GN!

I know this is turbotransam.com and not grandnational.com, but since both cars have a 2004R this isn't that far off topic. My beater buick has what seems to be the wrong plug on the wires that go into the transmission on the drivers side just above the pan. The plug pins don't seem to be making contact because I can't push them in far enough! The transmission downshifts alright, but getting it to upshift is somewhat of a chore. Under partial throttle it shifts with some coaxing, but you can forget about it under boost. Would the plug not being properly in there be making all the trouble? In case you are wondering the tranny doesn't slip when in gear, and the fluid looks very clean with no trace of shavings. Would adding an extra quart of tranny fluid help? (I heard of people with 7004r doing this)

That plug is just for the TCC lock up and your converter just won't lock up after overdrive. That's all that does. I had a bad solinoid and just drove around for 6 months with that unplugged anyways.. The shift issue could be your shift cable might need adjustment. It's the cable by the throttle body that goes to the trans. It controlls the pressure of the shifts. Sometimes you can adjust it for harder shift. Try clicking it towards the firewall and see what it's like. Other then that you might want to find someone local who works on these transmissions. DO NOT just take it to any trans shop. You must use someone who works on them all the time. There is allot of small things with these transmissions that the adverage trans shop has no clue about! Post back how you make out..

I adjusted the TV cable 6 clicks and it shifts now, but still really soft and not under full boost but it will shift up to 3/4 throttle. Now I can show that pesky talon some old school beater muscle! I guess instead of rebuilding this transmission right away, I will just order and new one with 9.5" lock up torque converter, shift kit, and trans cooler. I have a Mallender stage right trans brake somewhere in my parts bin, but I would like some feedback on how it has been holding up, now that it has been a few years since it came mainstream. Also, I will get my rear end rebuilt and get a set of air bags, while all this is being done. Then I might give the local 330' strip a try.

When I first got the car, all I could muster was 19.30 with my g-tech pro!
Unofficially the slowest 87 gn! The posi is worn and the passenger side tire spins off idle, so launching is pretty soft! also the car sits 2 inches lower on the driver's side than the passenger side! I will try it again with
My cherokee sport get low 17's to high 16's with 33 inch tires!
