Hey I am thinking of driving down the coast of California and heading to San Fran and Napa Valley. Has anyone gone down that way, been there. WHat is there to do and see?? Most of all What is the best places to eat??

Jarred, I hope you find out. Me and my girlfriend were thinking about flying out there and renting a car and do the same thing, maybe this summer.
 
Driving up there in April for a wedding.......
Never been there after all these years in CA.....
 
We are not gonna go until summer, few days in San Fran and a few in napa. Hope to see some cool cars and scenery along the way down 101

There are tons of things to see, although on most of my trips my time has been limited. There's of course the Golden Gate bridge, Alcatraz, and Fisherman's Wharf (plenty of places to eat there). And look up the famous Lombard Street, the most crooked & steep street in the city. I snapped the attached pic while on a little boat ride around the Bay. Not bad for an old cell phone pic while moving on a boat. Watch your wallet as the tourist crowds can attract pickpockets.

I recently drove up the coast from LA to the Bay...very cool experience and something I've been wanting to do for a long time. About halfway up I stopped for the night and spent the next half day at Hearst Castle. Very cool place to visit. It's a few hours from the Bay so not sure if you're looking to travel that far south.

That should give you a few ideas to start with.

Do the drive.. put it on your bucket list for sure.. GREAT part of the country.. done the trip probably 20 times in different weather and times of day.. and gotten off the highway.. there is A lot to see from start to finish..you could easily spend a week just cruising..
If your up around San Jose on the 880.. there's the old GM Plant.. now electric car plant.... or further up to Richmond.. (take a gun!).. theres the old Ford Plant still half exposed.. .. An Old Chrysler plant too from memory is now "Southland Mall" at the Hesperian Bld at Haywood/880 cross..
I'm due for a holiday so coming over in August to do the trip too..from Detroit to NYC to LV & up to SFO and down to LA.. .. GREAT drive..!
ALSO.. on Oakland Rd at San Jose is GM Sports Salvage.. worth looking into. (http://www.gmsports.com)
All the SFO area is delightful.. would love to live there more.. spent around 15 years there on and off. Coming over in August to do the trip too..from NYC to LV & up to SFO and down to LA.. .. GREAT drive..!

In Huntington Beach every Sat morning starting at 5:30 am until 7

Saturdays - Starts at 7 done by 9 A little bit of everything. Lots of exotics.

Must Drive PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) through Newport Beach and stop at the high end exotic dealers.

There are many more things, but this will put anyone in car overload.
 
Napa Valley = wine country. Makes me think of the movie "Sideways". Red, white or rose'. :cheers:

Lol yeah I love racing. I probably would too if I found one hah ha. I have officially committed to this trip. I want to take tta 733, I was gonna drove this car to the reunion but it had a problem so I trailered my other car. I'm dying for a good road trip!! With all the great ideas here it should be fantastic!!
 
South of San Fransico,
Is a city called Carmel.
Great area, and the best thing is, they have a really great restaurant.
Hog's Breath Inn.
Used to be owned by Clint Eastwood (not even sure if he still does own it).
Great food for sure.
Also, along the coast below Frisco, is a city called Surf City.
Lots of small Hot Rod shops there, and a really great beach.
As I use to live in SoCal, I have been up and down the coast tons of times, and love and miss it.
