The wife and were getting ready for our driving vacation this year, we are driving route 66 from beginning to end, it's gonna be a blast !! anyway, the 94 T/A convert was our car of choice till the diff grenaded on Sunday ... hmmm I wonder if this is a sign ... yes it is .... " I need a new diff !!" so now we're taking our SSR on this trip, I'm very excited about this trip !!!! We figure that the round trip we be approx 5300 miles ... damn am I gonna be tired !!!!
just thought I would share this with you guys !!!

Good luck, should be lots of fun. I took RT66 back from LA when I drove the hardtop/leather TTA home to NY and it was a blast even though I was a bit rushed to get home.

Post up when you should be driving thru Kingman, AZ.
I live there, and if you plan on a weekend, there is usually a small gatherning of cars in the city for a cruise night.

I too want to do this this (next summer?) with my wife. I will definitely do this only with a classic. If it isn't my Goat, or the future TTA I will be owning then it will be a classic purchased solely for the trip to be sold afterwards (maybe a Caddy Convert '70?) Good luck on the trip!

well here's an update, left Calgary Ab on Friday afternoon, made it to Regina Sk that night, Saturday crossed the USA border at Portal North Dakota, made it to Eau Claire Wi that night, arrived in Chicago Il at 3pm went down town to where the "begin Route 66" sign was SUPPOSED to be ... it was stolen .... go figure, so we went to Lou Mitchells and then got the hell out of downtown, unknown to us, there was an airshow that day ... BTW ... those Jets are FREAKING LOUD !!!!, then off to White Fence Farms in Romeoville Il ..... that place had the BEST chicken I have ever tasted !!! highly recommended !!! then on to Pontiac Il where we got a room in a B&B 2 blocks from the Route 66 hall of fame museum, the B&B was awesome ... she makes a killer breakfast, and the King size was ..... hell I can't even discribe it !!!,Highly recommended, then Monday off on more route 66, we are in Edwardsville Il just outside of St Louis tonight. it's been a blast so far, the route is fairly well marked with signs, everyone we've met so far has been extremely nice !!!
just thought I would keep you guys in the route loop.

FYI ..... it's been a blast so far .... ton's of stopping tho, but a blast none the less !!
 
This summer on my way to california from texas..took part of 66 (I40)from alburquerque, NM to barstow, CA. Its beautiful out there, lot of desert..and dont forget to stop by the Barringer meteor crator and pretrified national forest. Take pics!!!
 
sounds good, been taking tons of pics ... just forgot the blasted cord for the camara to the computer, guess I'll have to stop and get one !!!
 
well a little update, made it thru St Louis, man is that Arch huge !!! made the SSR look like a hot wheels car !!! , anyway off and running through MO .... tons of cool things to see ... Too much to post !!! made it as far as Springfield Last night, then off to Kansas, Oklahoma ..... Tulsa, Oklahoma City ... needed a beer and a steak, so off the road at El Reno OK for the night, should be in Tucumcari NM tomorrow night ..... we have met some incredible people on this trip, if anyone is thinking about doing this ... it's a blast, but some of the roads are really rough !!! and sometimes it is hot as hell, a good ride and A/C is a must !!!

Sounds like fun!
Holbrook, Arizona, has a motel with Tee-Pees.
Might want to do that.
And Hackberry (just before Kingman) has a great little gas station stop that is super, and has been in alot of posters and books.
Walk around the yard to see the old garage with even old tools and shop manuals.
The owner usually has his '50s Corvette right in front.
Inside, is a map of the world, with people's names, and money from all over the world, along with pins of where they came from.
On another wall, is letters, photos of car clubs that stopped by (like Vipers, Corvettes, Fieros, etc., and people who just wrote, to say thanks.
Road trips are a blast big time!

well we are in Holbrook AZ tonight, not able to get a tee pee for the night ... oh well, it was quite a trip so far. Last night we spent the night in Tucumcari NM at the Blue Swallow Motel ... what a awesome place, the owner takes you on a tour of the place, he has had all the garages painted with murals from Cars the Movie. Had lunch at the Big Texan in Amarillo TX ... great food for sure, there was a guy from Germany eating a 72 once steak as we were leaving .. I could even think about it !!! there has been a ton off cool and very interesting things along the way !!!
So we should be in Kingman AZ tomorrow mid afternoon. We are going to spend a little extra time there. Then off to Cali on Sunday morning, by our calculations, we should be on the Santa Monica pier dinner time Sunday. It will have been an unbelievable trip !!! so far we have put 3300 miles on.

I thought about that 72 oz steak too.

Too bad you are in some bad weather now.
This is the first rain we have had all summer!
If the rain stops, there is a local car cruise behind the Taco Bell on Stockon Road, right off the I40.
Not the Taco Bell off the Andy Devine/Route 66.
Did you get to that gas station in Hackberry?
Boy, I miss Santa Monica.
I use to surf there quite abit.
Been a few years for sure.

made it in to town yesterday afternoon fairly late, met up with some people we knew here. The gas staion at Hackberry was awesome, had to stand on the brakes with both feet, wow no notice, I could have spend hours there ... what a great place !! Well we'll be heading on our way to Santa Monica in an hour or so, that should put us in just before dinner time ... or there abouts. I can't believe that our adventure across the country is almost over, but it's been a great one!!!
