Question on the TTA BW rear end .. two versions?

I meant to ask this for some time as I can't find any reference on-line at all.

Not sure how many of you noticed but the TTA's seems to have come with two different rear end configurations ... most likely due to a change of the configuration.

Seems like the early built TTA's (not sure how many) have dust shields in place and the code on the sticker on the diff cover have 8EU on them ... then later the dust shields were dropped (not sure if other changes were made) and the large sticker on the diff cover then says 9EQ on them ...

Both above rear axles are 3.27 ratio and the same B&W Austrailain 9-bolts ...

Found a listing online saying the 8EU version is a "standard" rear axle and the 9EQ one is the limited slip version however I don't think that is the case as both of them must have been limited slip ...

I've attached photos of a TTA with the 8EU rear and you can see the sticker on the diff cover as well as the dust shield for the brakes ..

Will find a good picture of the 9EQ one as well that is of a low milage car and post shortly ...

So would be interesting to know what you have on yours and your build number ... there's no reference on the buildsheets to any of the above codes just the normal RPO you would expect ...

So even if your diff cover sticker is long gone you can post up with or without those dust shields and your build number ...

My quess is 8EU is -88 and older code and 9EQ is -89 and later as that come standart do GTA and IROC-Z. Totally same rear end.

Well at some point during 1989 they changed from one to the other as it looks like (just been through photos of 300+ TTAs) the first 8 - 900 TTA's have the 8EU one ....

If GM changed I would have expected to see some sort of service or technical bulletin about it ... but can't find anything really :-(

Not sure about code. Can't find my cover right now. I do know that I had dust shields on #205. Doubt that with 160,000+ miles and at least one rebuild that the tag is still there. If I can find it I will post the code. I would think that ANA.TTA might be correct. Possible date code for when the diff. was built?
