PS pump noise?

Any one had a noise, like a low tone growling or moaning from the drivers side front of the engine bay? I only get it at idle. It almost sounds like a bearing, but does not get worse with RPM. I have gone after it with a mechanics stethescope. I have replaced the alt bearings, belt tensioner bearing, and the A/C clutch bearing. The only thing left is power stearing on that side. Yes the fluid is right on. I have started it with the belt off and no noise so it has to be in the belt track.

Sound familure.

Hi, I'm brand new to the turbota web site and message board. My car (9200 miles)has this same noise you describe. I don't hear much unless car is in drive, and it seems less severe when the AC is on. I have also done an alternator re-build and replaced the idle tensioner pully assy to no avail. Haven't done anything to the AC though, but from what you said, it sounds like that wouldn't help anyway. I'm certain this has to be an accessory noise because if I run the engine with the serpentine belt removed, it is super quiet. Have you heard from anyone else on this topic since your posted message??
THanks!

just got back on and noticed this was still out there. Any one else see this (or heard this as the case mey be) and fixed it. Right now the car is on stands and about to get the transmission pulled. The plan is still to do the pump while it is off the road.

I have the same issue and just noticed the tensioner pully is rubbing/grinding on the Power steering pully.

If rubbing you have either the wrong length belt or the belt stretched overtime but less likely unless you have some aftermarket (smaller diameter) pulleys in yours?

Correct belt is a 6PK1605 but not easy to find in the US ... plenty of them here in Europe as they are used on several cars on this side of the pond.

I just changed one that the PS pump was making that noise. New pump and noise gone. May or may not be your problem but it was mine
