Yesterday afternoon I got a call from one of my neighbors asking if I would be home in the next few minutes. There was a wildfire heading towards my house and she knew my dog was home alone. I left work immediately and my wife was 5 minutes behind me. The fire was about a half mile away but the wind was blowing directly the direction of my house.

We only had a few minutes to grab items before we left. I grabbed the video camera and began running around the house taping what belongings we had. I put my dog in the truck, and grabbed my portable safe. My wife packed cloths and pictures while the state police pulled in the driveway for the evacuation order. I had never been so proud of my wife as when she came running out the door for the final time yesterday with my TTA owners kit and documentation in her hand. :-) I figured a few of you would appreciate my wifes priority on that one, lol.

My TTA is in Indiana and my other toys were already in a garage saftly out of harms way. I had set the owners kit out as I was video taping the basement but I lost track of it when the police man showed up and put the rush on.

When it was all under control this morning my house is smokey but still standing. The fire burned 770 acres and came within about 150 yard of my home. All local fire departments pitched in and did a great job of keeping the fire from crossing the main road 900 feet from my house. We are told tonight we may be able to visit our home and prepare for the cleanup to take place in the next couple of days. Close call but all is well.

Glad to hear everything is OK.
Fire is something to really worry about.
As a young teenager, our house came real close to burning down.
We were told to leave, but we stayed, and stood on the roof, keeping the wooden roof doused with a garden hose.
Hope you don't have anything but smoke smell.

Glad to hear your house was spared. I've been through the loss of home due to fire, and it's not anything I'd wish on even my enemy.

A BIG kudos to the wife....I'd say she's a keeper!!!
 
I was allowed home at 8:00pm last night. I can't beleive how much mess some have and how little mess I have. I don't even have debris in my yard!! My house doesn't smell like smoke!!! I just can't beleive how much I lucked out!!!! Wow, what an overwhelming day. I slept REALLY well last night.

The fire burned 33 structures, 12 were homes. The closest home destroyed was proably 1/2 mile from mine. If you go to uppermichiganssource.com and click on black river falls fire, click on the raw footage (I think it was clip 3) and it shows my aunts sister leaving her home with a wall of fire behind it. Even if you don't know me or my home area, the footage is pretty amazing to watch. For me it is all in my back yard :-0
 
I happy that everything is ok. Make sure you get your wife a nice spa package or something for saving the important stuff.

Yes I have. Once we were allowed back home we drove in with my Z28. The car died in my neighbors driveway. I was planning to trailer it to our shop but my truck broke before I had a chance. It has dual batteries and one exploded, I have acid all over under the hood. So I have 4 vehicles (not including my wifes) and I'm down to my 85 CJ7 Jeep as my only transportation that runs.

If I had old junky cars I'd understand. Everything I own in maintained and I try took keep everything it top running condition. My truck is a 2005, who'd think of an exploding battery?

O-well, my family is healthy and that is the most important. The rest are just details.
 
Glad to hear you escaped a mess. A home across the street from my caught on fire a few years back and I sat there looking out the window watching it burn just about to a shell. Thee was a family of 6 living in there. Was a big old old twin home. I just kept thinking watching all the mess they went thru that a home fire must be the worse. It's gotta be even more crazy when mother nature is the cause of it! Hang in there I'm sure things will start getting better!

I can just picture your wife running around in the basement looking for things to grab.. she see's the owners kit and thinks to her self.... didn't my husband say these were going for over a grand on ebay.... hmmm better grab this! :) She is a keeper! :)
