Oil Pan Plug STUCK!

Hey Everyone-

I attempted to change my oil yesterday and cannot get the Oil Pan plug off! I tried all assortments of Hex Key and Sockets, but the damn thing won't budge! Any suggestions? Also, There is a decent dent in the bottom of my oil pan. I am wondering if this has contributed to my troubles removing the plug? Any help is greatly appreciated!
 
Spray sides of bolt with lubricant/rust penetrant. Dry of excess with paper towel. Use quality hex tool. Insert tool in bolt. Lighty tap with small hammer. Gently turn to tighten then gently turn to loosen. Less is more. Be easy with it. It will come free. I would replace old bolt with new. They also had plastic washer on them new.

I use 1/4 in hex socket on 3/8 in ratchet to remove and tighten. The reg slider hex keys don't have enough torque to remove it. Hope everything is ok!

These plugs are TTA unique, so try not to damage it
 
Note that the plug used was put there for ground clearance so I would not replace it with anything else (unless damaged) when you do get it off. Another TTA only item.

I don't think the dent have anything to do with it.


Ps. Mike I sent stainlessworks an email the other week to see if we can get the reproductions done but not heard from them ...

I did not strip it, but came close. I sprayed it with WD40 last night. I am thinking of hooking my drill up to a 1/4 hex bit and seeing if that torque will break it free.
 
do not use a drill on it.It's just in there tight you could strip the dam thing ,then you are going to open a can of worms.Get the right allen socket with a ratchet it should brake free,make shore you hold the ratchet firm and straight.Good luck hope you get it:bye1:
 
I agree with pont1230 be sure you have the correct size key and insert it fully and straight. Then pull to break it free. Be sure the drain plug hole is clean and free of dirt and debris. If all else fails I have a spare oil pan with plug I could part with.

I agree with you guys, make sure it is in properly. Also I have used a long handle rachet for more leverage or something similar. I got the allen socket set from harbor freight and the 1/4 in. is what you need.
 
Bought an allen socket set last night. Gonna give that a try and stay away from the drill. Worst case scenario I will take it to my mechanic and have him put it on the lift. I think most of my problem right now is leverage.
 
Looks like some one jacked up the car on the oil pan. Bummer.

You can use a little dab of valve grinding compound on your socket or the allen wrench for a little extra no slip grip. Works great, old school tip from grandpa. ;-)
