Octane requirements for modified TTA

I picked up my TTA yesterday (car # 109). Ran great for a while and then the engine started breaking up under heavy throttle. I put 93 octane in the car, but could it be that it wants more octane?

The car has an adjustable wastegate & fuel press. reg.. The mystery is why does this problem only occur intermittently? I turned the boost down 1 full turn and that did not cure the problem, but since there is no boost gauge I do not know what I am running.

Any ideas?
