new project for me

Hello everyone. new to this forum and really enjoying what I see. I am not new to turbos as I have an 86 dodge omni GLH. I know its no turbo six but dont under estimate.

I am getting ready to buy a clean 85 firebird off a friend of mine moving to hawaaii. It has a v6 ( not sure what disp.), and a 5 speed tranny. Ive driven it a couple of times and had fun, nothing special. but if I do buy it, I will be looking to go the turbo route. I read up on the engine swap here and found good info. shouldnt be too difficult.

My questions are,

How expensive is this going to be for me? not looking for a jet but want to get it to stock turbo specs and drive it for a while to get the feel of it before I modd it heavily.

Second, I want to make this a trick street/ roadracer, not really a drag racer. Would I be able to keeps this a manual trannycar? I am sure the stock 5 speed wont cut it so maybe theres a better one I can swap in?

Thanks in advance and look forward to having fun with this and with you all.

First off Omni GLHs are badass!

Ok back on topic. For everything to swap it to a LC2 I would guess it would cost around $6k or more for all the wiring and to do it correctly. I dunno about keeping a manual but you'll see a significant decrease in performance. Turboing the stock V6 in it won't yield very great results without sinking a lot of money into it. Check www.turbobuick.com and do some searches. There's a couple people on there who havce done an LC2 conversion on a regular firebird.

Good luck with the firebird, and good luck keeping that Omni running :D

sweet thanks man. As for the omni, yes it is badass. I swapped in the turbo2 motor and tranny from the GLHS intercooled. As for luck on it running I know what you mean. I finally had to do it right, and havent had a problem yet. But yes back to my real topic here.

6K huh, Well I do want it right the first time. I dont want to have to be under the hood all the time. dont get me wrong I love working on cars but I love driving them too!

As for the tranny issue, Ill assume that Ill just have to do a good auto since I dont want performance to diminsh. RATS.

Hey thanks for everything. If I get the car I post some pics, If not then when I do get one ( cause I need one now after seeing everyone's turbo T/A) I post up.
