Went to the Bettenhausen annual car show in Tinley Park yesterday. Great time, great people, and great host. No cost to enter and they covered the event and all the awards. Not as big of a turn out as usual due to the scarey looking clouds, but not one drop of rain and I still got sunburned. Only 5 cars in my 80's class. Two ratty 1985 El Caminos, one 1987 plain Camero Z28, and a 1989 Dodge Daytona, which won best in class. They gave out 4 awards to our class....guess which car didn't get one.... No RESPECT I tell ya.... :aggressive:Good thing I love my car. Tons of compliments and questions all day, I guess they just didn't care to vote for it.

Here are pics of the two of the 5 80's cars. I didn't even take pics of the el caminos or the dodge daytona, if that tells you what I thought of them. There are many more pics in the slide show link below.
You be the Judge.

More Lambo Doors inside. I should have brought my Vette and we would of had three there. Don't see to many of them. Lots of nice and unique cars though, some really cool Mopars...always at this show. I really loved the lowered Black Lincoln Continental, the Blue GTO, the Blue Studebaker, and the Buick GS and Chevelle. I followed the C6 Corvette Z06 with the 427 home on I-80. He hit a opening in traffic and tried to get away from me and I stayed right with him up to 100 before he slowed down. That was the best part of the day for me.

Typical ... I can see the Camaro getting a trophy (it looks really nice even if not stock) but for the others ... yours looks and shows great so can't believe you did not get one as well :-(

At least you had a nice day out with no rain

You need to tell me ahead of time when you are going to these shows. All though the weather here in Chicago has sucked the last 2 weeks. Remind me next time :) Sorry you didn't get a trophy and car shows are much about how many friends you have at the show then how the car shows themselves. Car looks awesome and looking forward to seeing it sometime this summer.

This is so true. Unfortunately for me, I dont have many friends that like cars, so I'm usually SOL at the shows. Your car looks great it shows very well. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Been there done that. So, since I know this is likely the outcome, I always try to make sure I'm with the winning cars when they are leaving so I can thoroughly embarass them at every possible stop light. Also, comments like, "yeah I'll give ya a couple seconds head start" always seem to solidify the process.

You might haven't got a trophy because u have black wheels an black intercooler pipes .... just don't look right on a TTA car in a carshow

Hey Mike,

There is a good one coming up on Saturday 6/15 and it is closer to you too. It's at Busse Woods in Elk Grove Village for all Turbo Buick Brothers, see attached word doc for the flyer. Hope you can make it and anyone else in area with a Turbo Buick. I am really looking forward to this one.

I will also be at a couple cruise nights this week if the weather cooperates ..... so if anyone wants to meet there, just let me know.
--- Downtown Lemont on Wednesday Night
--- Downtown Frankfort on Thursday Night
--- Downtown Morris on Saturday Night
If anyone wants to meet at any other, just let me know. I love to get out with the car.

I like the Black Wheels and Dark Knight tint on the windows. I have a few black accents in the engine bay too. I am going to have the GNX turbo shield Powder Coated in High Gloss black this week. I just can't get the aluminum to shine right the way it is. I had the t-tops off this time, But I think it shows better with them on and windows up. Ties the black in more. Just my personal preference. I am telling you though, if you would seen the other four cars next to mine you would be sick. The z28 was nice outside but inside was trashed. I like your answer Ratfink. The z28 owner was drooling over my car and rear tires. He knew what the TTA was a really nice young kid.

Sorry to hear about something like this... seems to be able to happen at any "popular vote" type show.
I would think that the compliments and level of interest tell you more about how nice your car is vs the "no award". Keep the faith!

Kman, I saw the Buick show at Busse woods, but I will be out of town. It stinks since it is 3 miles from my house. UGH! The weather is getting nicer again, so time to spool it up. Tues and Weds nights I can not do either. I will have to start my own car show in my front lawn I guess. lol
