I think something in my transmission is broken

:furious:

so coming home tonight was on the on ramp and punched it and the revs just shot up like it was in nuetral did it in overdrive and in drive

The car is fine under light acceleration but the moment you give it too much pedal its like its not grabbing. I know nothing about automatics. Heck I dont even know if your supposed to drive in overdrive or drive, maybe thats what caused the failure?

I drive in OD with no issues. That didn't cause your failure.

Sorry to hear that man...I wish I had an answer. Get in contact with Jim. I know he has a guy that can rebuild them for cheap(er).

I will talk to Jim Sanders on saturday, see what he says. Like I said these cars( turbo buicks) are his specialty. I'm going down Saturday to see him and work on the TTA.

Man I had my tranny rebuilt FOUR times and they still could not get it right!!!

Then I got in touch with Lonny @ extreme automatics, he is fast, builds a great product and is priced well.

Bruce is good too at PTS, my cousin had a tranny done 18 times and than got a PTS trans and was good ever since, it is still in his car since 2002. He has a 10sec GN though, not a tta. I am waiting for a pts trans but still not ready, and that is another story.....

ANyway good luck man, I know I had a nightmare with my previous trans.

Jarred.

Too bad you don't live in Chicago. Jimmy from Jimmy's Transmission in Mundelein, IL is a god with these transmission's. That is all he does, but I think he has a real job now and does transmission on the weekends now. In fact Jarreds #733 was done by him and that thing shifted great.

Agreed with what Mike says, Jimmy is the man! Installed a TCC solenoid in my old car along with a trans cooler. Never had a problem with the trans and I used to use 2 and 3 (Drive) around road courses. I also had a 1/8" thick aluminum spacer installed on my pan so I could run the filter from the 700 trans with the bottom pickup. The 200 filter is a top pickup and can suck up air from the front seam of the filter during load.

someone suggested that i try unplugging the TCC switch on the drivers side of the tranny to see if that made any difference and that it may be the cause of the problem

any thoughts on that?

That would only effect the torque converter unlocking and locking. That would not effect the "revs shooting up"

Sorry bro, but that is "the bitch" about these cars. If you add any more power to the car the 200-4r suffers, which I'm guessing yours ain't stock. Your trans will show it's weak links after a few mods and years of boost launches from street light to street light. Face the music like we have all done and get it built strong as hell. Spare no expense. Research the builders and do it ONCE.

I contacted David Husek over on the Buick forums about possibly getting everything built to top notch stuff

For now though I'd just like to have the car drivable

While it sounds like you need a rebuild for sure one last ditch thing you can try is dump the fluid and filter get some fresh Dex 3 fluid and a new filter in there (inspect the pan for crap while it's down) and add a bottle of this stuff...

While I was never a believer of additives like this for the transmission I've seen personally changes in the manners of the transmission by just using this stuff. I just put a bottle in my new rebuild on my 86 GN. I like to add it to all my transmissions in general but I've known people with slight slipping or flaring issues and this helped if not fixed it. While this is only a band aid for now it's worth a try and inexpensive way to see what's going on in your pan and buying a little more time.

well update Nick came down today and I found that I didnt check the fluid correctly and it was actually not all the way full, ive also read that your supposed to add a little extra even? any truth to that?

also what kind of ATF do these cars use, I got the one that said GM approved I thought I read somewhere dec3 or whatever is what it takes and thats on the bottle here

Did you not read my post above you?? Everything you need to know is right there. Do NOT over fill it. Try what I posted and see what happens.

Extream automatics or a pts ...... I have a pts full billet in my TTa with TTA shallow bottom feed pan works awsome so far.
