Going in Monday morning to have my tonsils taken out!

Anyone else have them done when they were my age or around it? I'm 40 for those that don't know! :D I'm going to one of the best hospitals with the best doctors anywhere around here (Jefferson) but they worry me when they ask if I have a living will and give you all this stuff with prayers in it! Hopefully it all goes smooth. There was a thread on turbobuicks about a few guys around my age having them taking out and the recovery don't sound fun! :bleed:

Nothing worse then going into a hospital feeling pretty much fine and waking up with 3rd degree burns in the back of your throat a few hours later! :blink: I've had a sore throat non stop since the start of Feb this year. This is why the doc says they have to come out! Hopefully I'll be back here next week to report I'm alive! :cheers:

I had mine taken out at 38. It wasn't fun, but if you do the things they tell you, you'll be ok. Stock plenty of chicken noodle soup, broth, and the colorful ice cream sticks. Just broth hurt the first few days. Make sure they give you percocet..take it religiously, at least the first 3-4 days! I skipped a dose thinking that I was doing ok...mistake!!! The upside is that if you need to lose a few pounds it'll happen:D. In 10 days you'll feel much better. Good luck! Let us know how it went...once you're coherent enough;)

I had mine out along with adnoids and uveula at around 40. It's considered risky on us older kids because of the potential of bleeding is greater during recovery.(or that's what my surgeon told me).

It's a miserable few weeks, but you'll get throught it just fine. It changed my life! I had no idea people fell asleep and slept through the whole night!

I rarely get sore throats and colds now, and when I do they are much, much shorter. Like 3-5 days, instead of 10-14 days before.

Well I'm alive! You know it's bad I got home yesterday at 2pm and didn't even feel like going on the computer!

The doctor told me they had about 7 Tonsillectomy's yesterday alone. Seems they are doing a good number of them lately. The nurse said everyone kept getting older too as they went along. I think the anesthesiologists went over board on me tho. It was hard to recover back up at the hospital. Took me longer then normally. Plus when I got home I started throwing up. That was real fun! It was black so I guess I swallowed some blood in the surgery. I think I might have saw a rubber glove go by! :blink:

Today isn't to bad so far. I had a banana and some yogurt this morning so far but there is some pain. It don't really hurt just sitting here but when you swallow it's like having the worst sore throat you ever had. Oh well back off to bed and more pain meds! But I'm alive (so far)!

Good for you! Rest up and get ready to enjpy life without those sunsabitchin' tonsils!
 
Glad it went smooth. Hope you have a fast recovery! Tell the doctor vicadin or oxycotton would help then enjoy the numbness! :D
 
Thanks guys! The strange part is I have no pain. It's only day 2 but it hurts to swallow some but not as bad as I thought. Someone said the pain can come later so we'll see! Drinkin tons of water and eating jello and ice pops like mad. I'm starving to death over here!! lol I'm a big boy and I smell the BBQ this morning and I wanted to faint! lol I can't wait till I can eat normal foods again. This is how I feel when I smell normal food....

lol I'll keep you guys up to date! He also went in and cleaned out my nose some so I have that clogged up and bleeding coming from there. I'm already bored in the house! I was smart and bought all the parts to build a new PC so I've started on that project. I love to build computers in my spare time. Almost as relaxing as working on the TTA! :)
 
Ima kill you guys!!!!!!!!!! :censor::censor::chair: I'm over here eatin apple sauce and pudding and I have to look at that picture! Both of you are gonna get it in bowling green next year! :boxing::boxing:

Glad to see you are all right and alive.
I noticed that alot of members here had logged onto U-Haul for trailer rentals to your home town.
I wonder how many people lost their deposits. ;)
I had mine out when I was around 10 or so.
They said I could eat all the ice creme I wanted to.
I wanted to, till they brought out a huge spoon.
I made up for it ever since.
I eat a big bowl every night since then! ;)
So, staying home, buying up everything on ebay?

lol nice George! I'm pretty much all healed up now. Doc said everything looked good in there. Little harsh back there but I can swallow without pain now. My tounge also fits in my mouth finally. I would chew my dinner or gum and always bite my tounge because my tonsils were so big they were pushing my tounge up near my teeth! Hopefully another week or 2 and I'll be 100%. The nice thing was to eat hot wings at Hooters last Friday! :)
