gn drivetrain in a 87-92 firebird

advice or knowledge
Has anyone done any swaps of the gn drive train into a 3rd grn trans-am? My buddy wants a project car so I told him that this might be interesting!

So far we know I need a....

1. complete gn engine with all the intercooler piping,
fuel lines and walbro 340 fuel pump, hotwire kit, a volt booster kit!

2.Syphon crossmember and torque arm for a 89 tta
9 bolt 3rd gen rear ( GTA's most not all and TTA had them) very strong and bolts right in be sure to get a disc brake posi unit with 3.27 or the 3.42 gears. along with the driveshaft . 89 tta engine mounts

3.you will need to have a fuel tank from a fuel injected car .

4.what is a good year to buy firebird GTA

6.besides the gn trans what is a good tranny to go with? Who makes a good performance tranny?
does anyone that might have done this before have a parts price list? [email protected]

hey bud Im in the middle of a swap similiar to this as well

this is what i have collected as info

1. I would stick with the 700R4 trans, it will make things easier and supposedly it can be built alot stronger, I actually have a built one from CKperformance

2. If you stick with the 700 trans you will be able to use a 1LE driveshaft, I also have this in my car as well, its 10lbs lighter etc....
Also you can use the existing crossmember, its gonna be near impossible to find a TTA crossmember, so that only leaves you with aftermarket

3. Get a firebird/trans am body from 90-92
the reason for this is that they had baffled gas tanks (like the one in the TTA)

4. You need FWD heads off a buick lesabre 3.0L these are the same as TTA heads just a different cast #

5. You also need a TTA engine harness (www.casperselectronics.com) has them

6. You need TTA headers or custom headers(about $1500)

7. Now if you want to stick with the GN heads you dont have to do #s 4 or 6, but you will still need headers made (not sure if the GN ones will work) and on top of that you would need a custom exhaust, however if you went the other way, you can use any aftermarket exhaust made for the TTA

hope this helps bud
