First time back at the track in 12 years:)

So this is how this came about. I'm not a racer by any means, but on Thursday a few of my co-workers invited me to the tack (Speed World) in Surprise, AZ Friday night for a "Test & Tune" anything goes night. Sine, I bought my TTA, I never raced it be for nor was I planning too, but I was always curious on what it could do just for my own knowledge. Besides, when ever I take it to cruise nights & car shows one of the top 3 questions I always get is: Whats it run?

So, my co-workers with some good pure pressure talked me into taking my TTA Friday night to the track, few of them brought their cars to. One of the tracks rules is any car 14sec & under requires a helmet, I brought my motorcycle helmet just in case, but I didn't think I was really going to need it, since I had no idea on what the car was going to run, I was figuring high 14's to 15 flat area with me driving.

So, I get in the staging lanes getting ready to go, both excited & nervous at the same time, my buddy was in the other lane with his 72" Camero with a built 502BB & 4-speed. He does a nasty burn out, & I do a mini one. I stage up at the lights & power braked it a little & left on the last yellow. When I took off, it felt like the Enterprise getting ready to jump to warp speed. I ended up running a 14.2 first time out and I beat my buddy (he couldn't hook up-he said) so that was cool.

I ran 4 more times next was a 13.9, changed lanes & ran a 14.0, went back at the other lane and ran 13.9 again, let it cool for a while & ran about an hour later, last pass of the night & ran a 13.6. I was proud of my self for braking the 14sec mark, I think the car is capable of lower 13's but with me driving I'm happy with what it did. :burnrubber:

Love these stories! I'll bet you had the time of your life:toot:

And now you have the answer and you're not too far away from a 12s either....if you wanted to.

Listen...you're gonna hear BS like that all the time.Just be sure to line up against him again sometime. I'm sure it will be a whole new excuse for being beaten by some Lil' Ole 231 cubic inch V6.

....

Nice. Is your car modded at all?

It has a few minor things: TA-49 Turbo, K&N intake, Cat-delete w/3inch exhaust all the way back through a Corsa muffler (stock looking tips), Turbo Tweek chip w/matching 42.5lb injectors, adj. fuel regulator.

Re: First time back at the track in 12 years:)
Nice kill on the 502 4spd.

It was the first time down the track, my last pass when I did the 13.6, I was racing him again, he got his revenge on me, and "hooked up" he ran a 12.8.
I still had fun though and feel like I gained some respect for going and having fun.

Good for you.
A friend of mine, had to buy a new car, to say his is faster now.
But we haven't raced. I said anytime.
He just bought a Dodge Challenger SRT 8.
I beat his '73 Road Runner with a built 360. ;)

That SRT ain't no joke, but neither is a well tuned TTA; i would like to see that race!

I know.
But I know he can't drive worth a sh*t. ;)
He showed up at a car show, parked next to me, and said let's go.
I was out of my chair, and had my keys out, and he backed down, saying it's his wife's car.
I threw the keys to my girl Lisa, and said race her.
She said no, so my friend said his daughter would.
Lisa stood there, straight faced, and say let's go.
All three backed down.
None of them can race at all.
It was funny.
But hey, I'll race for fun, even if I lose. ;)

I've had a lot of fun at the track over the years, just don't seem to make it out as often as I'd like to. It was a buddy who bought a Charger SRT8 that finally got me to take my 02 35th Conv to the track & ran 13.7 @ 103 which was about the same as the Charger did. The Camaro clicked off 6 runs all under 14 sec's. Will be running the TTA later this month.

ah i see cant rev it up an dump the clutch

Nope, & loading up the torque convertor seemd to slow ikt down, Pretty much stab the gas on the 2nd yellow & go. I think the car would have run better on Sunoco 94, and maybe pulling the spare tire and running on 1/3rd tank would have helped by a bit.
