How ever that code will give you three different shades of the white color used in 1989 so you will need to have them match a part of your car to make sure you get the right shade, also your original paint probarbly changed slightly since 1989 so having them color/shade match would make sure the new part looks the same.

They already paint matched the car but they said a paint code would be nice. They said exactly what you said...that there are 3 different shades. They just want it to be a prefect match and I said I doubt it will be perfect. 20 year old paint will be faded and what not.
Had the same issue when I got mine painted (completly) back in 2004, the got me 3 samples with the 3 different shades and I had to pick one ... compared to a couple of parts I had left from the original car and picked one that looked farily close but I'm not sure if it was the original shade or not GM used on the TTA's ... as you say the paint is faded etc over the years. Had some other parts painted later on and they took the paint code and then matched the shade to the front wings and they came out spot on (or at least I can't tell the difference).
