Exhuast/muffler Problems

Hi,

I am not sure what other people have done to solve their exhaust problems, but I am looking for solutions.

I have a Dynomax cat back system, but the Dynomax muffler was leaking at the seams. Well, I have since replaced it with a Walker muffler and new tail pipes, but after just a few hundred miles it is leaking a the seams really really bad. Also, It has gotten really loud. So loud, it makes the windows in the house rattle when it is sitting there idling.

I have been looking at several solutions.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with any of these mufflers? How they sound and if they are louder than the Dynomax super turbo muffler? I wish that I could hear them without having to buy them. It is difficult to find a muffler that sounds right.

Also, I have another exhaust leak. I have taken the headers off and put them back on many times. The Remflex gaskets seem to work, and I never found anywhere they are blown out, still I can hear what sounds like an exhaust leak on the passenger side of the car. I cut the cross over pipe and had it welded to get it to lineup with the headers better. Still, I wonder if it is leaking there, but I can't feel a leak. Could this be because of too much back pressure? Any ideas?

When I did some shopping for a muffler for my T/A, I looked at the VT series. But I came across more than a few videos on YouTube about exhaust rattle. The VT valve is a spring loaded flapper valve, and on some applications, if won't stay fully closed, and bounces on and off of it's seat, creating a rattle.

When I spoke to the folks at Dynomax about this last year, they said this did occur in a some applications when the unit was first introduced, but they had since redesigned the spring (rate) and added a material to the valve (padding?) to help prevent this rattle.

While I really liked the idea / design, I would not be able to bring myself to put one of these on my car.

Feel bed about your troubles with this , it can get frustrating, I had a borla installed on my tta in 2003 that sounded great then and to this day still sounds good, not to loud deep sound not like a v8 but that v6 turbo almost factory sound and not rattles.
Hope you find what your looking for, as for me that was a pain in the ass.

Your exhaust leak might be a small hole in the header. My mechanic found one in mine on the passenger side. I hadn't even noticed, but it was still very small. I imagine they grow over time.

Yep.. TTA's are a little finakee.. the Borla is very pricey but nice..

I was afraid that valve would be a problem. It seems like a valve could be a problem.

It sure is a pain. I realy like the sound of the borla, but the price is what is stopping me!

This could be the problem. I have an ATR down pipe. It had a hanger of sorts welded to it, but without the down pipe was rubbing the header. I tried putting my finger over where it rubbed, but no leak. I am going to look for a pin hole. Where on your header was it?
