Catalytic Converter Delete — Yes or No?

Makes a big difference on these cars, and chances are as old as the car is it is not required any longer for emissions testing depending on where you live.
Best thing to do is do not destroy the convertor getting it off.... Remove the U-bolt clamp, make 2 cuts with a dremel up the side of the pipe so the convertor can be slide off...slide on a straight pipe with the 4-bolt flange on it where the convertor bolted, bolt the front part lightly so it will come off easy....if you don't like it, put the convertor back on...but you will like it! Still a good idea to do to help resale value....believe it or not, OEM cat convertors for my '79 are insanely priced to make them 100% original.

No engine light.. Unbolt pipe off converter then bust the honey comb out of the shell. It's pretty brittle so you can use a punch and hammer. Remove the big pieces and start up engine and rev it up to remove the smaller/ finer particles . We just did this at our shop 2 days ago on a customers GN...easy..but make sure area is well ventilated when you start it to remove the small stuff, it's rather dusty.

yes it makes a hole lot of difference and it sounds great.I bought a grand national test pipe brand new never used on e-bay for 15 dollars.

My cat is gutted-discovered this when installing the new intermediate pipe. No check engine light-car runs great.:)

I would call Denny at Mufflex. He made me an adjustable test pipe with the correct 2 bolt flange for $65 shipped.

I made a mess hogging out my stock cat...Yuck! Wish I didn't....

and you could also go the testpipe/electric cutout option, there by forgoing modifying the muffler for even a bit more performance. Opening the dump will raise your boost a pound or two and give the stock turbo the best flow/least backpressure. I'm still running the stock muffler and intermediate pipe for just cruising, but then have the option for mega flow with a push of a button.
Something to think about.

If you drive alot, wear lots of aftershave! It'll cover the exhaust smell stuck to your clothes. For my purposes, I wouldn't do it again.

You may have needed a tune to lean it out some if your BLMs were below 120 on a scanner?

TT Tune is matched to set-up. BLM's around 124. Catless stinks more. I'm thinking about reverting to cat. Don't get me wrong, I like the power, but hate the fumes more.:pedo:

If you can get the BLMs to 128 - 132 it will smell much better. It's been my experience, anytime the computer is pulling fuel thinking its running rich that it tends to smell some and water your eyes if not ventilated well. I always tune to where the computer it adding just a tad rather than subtracting fuel due to the fact that most of the time, depending on model of car, whatever the BLM is, it will carry that to PE mode..if subtracting, it will continue to subtract that amount when in PE mode and not looking at the O2 sensor… Speaking of those, make sure the O2 has good cross-counts too, 0-255 in less than 90 secs, otherwise replace.
