A/C Compressor

I had the AC compressor replaced with a Harrison/OEM unit in #689 about 2 years ago, and the car refilled with R-12. Since then, there has been a resonant vibration of the compressor at about 2000-2200 rpm (cruising speed) that you can hear and feel through the cabin.

I know Jan recently posted that the compressor pulleys for our cars are unique and have a special balance/flywheel setup. Does anyone know why this was done? Also, does anyone know the part number for the correct pulley? I'd like to search for a new/NOS/used one if it's really required.

I'm curious if anyone has used off-the-shelf OEM A/C compressors in their cars and experienced similar symptoms...

Thanks!

As far as I remember Scott Kelly told us the pulley where different to balance out some vibrations of some sort ...

I'll look up the part number but I remember doing a search trying to find one earlier this year with no luck and got a good used original one instead.

The AC Compressor (complete) part number is 1131816 and they list a service replacement as 2724354 (and this looks like the current replacement for that part number: GM Compressor Chevrolet/GMC OEM# 3090927)

The pulley only is 6552544 which is the only unique part for the TTA

Bellow are photos of the factory correct unit I got hold of and you can see the "lip" on the pulley acting as a balancer.

Jan, The nice used one looks like the compressor that Jersey Poppy-Jim had for sale on e-bay.

Jersey Poppy-Jim told me a few days ago that his late uncle was the Sales Manager where my TTA was sold new in Trenton NJ at Cathcart Pontiac.

I was trying to find the early history of my TTA before it came to TN around 1993. Still trying to find that info.:eam:

Mike, Jim sold a GN compressor on ebay ... I saved the photos (see below).

I got mine from ta88gta that parted out TTA no 677 recently on here and on turbobuick.com (he's in Canada).

Got a few other bits from Jim ... oh did you grab the engine oil filler plug from Jim? I was bidding on that one so we could get it reproduced but got outbid :-(

Yes, got the TTA oil plug, it is like new condition! Also got the fuel rail end cap.

Thought it might have been you that got it ... at least its in the "family" lol.

Should we pick up the project to try to get a correct reproduction plug done? (with and without a magnet)

Yeah - still hoping for a repro drain plug Mike. That stainless guy could probably make it right from that plug you bought.

Yep, it's in good hands now! It would be nice to get a reproduction done, don't know how busy the stainless bolt people are, but I am busy here with long hours thru the summer months during the week days.
