1989 Turbo Trans Am Build Information

Hello fellow Turbo Trans Am owners,

After a very busy four plus years I am back to my roots with the TTA Group.

As most of you know, I am privileged to be the custodian of the Prototype TTAs. Along with the Jeff Beitzel TTA Convertible, resides the TTA Design Check Vehicle and the TTA Emissions Certification Vehicle. This collection is complemented by the stand held Full View TTA Display Engine, same item as is pictured in the TTA brochure.

A few years back I acquired all the TTA project records held by PAS Corporation. These records are complete with every conceivable major drivetrain part identified and sequenced for each specific TTA VIN number. Each vehicle was assigned a PAS Corporation sequence number prior to dealership distribution. That sequence number and surrounding information is in the records as well. Most records were kept on wide form computer printouts although some information on each vehicle exist in written form involving specific pre-delivery discrepancies.

Over the years TTA owners have received alleged sequence number information from a couple of sources. Neither source provides accurate information on the sequence number. Certainly you have observed that those sources provide no other VIN number specific information.

As you know, this unique vehicle posessed a PAS Corporation Window Sticker at time of Dealership Delivery. The vehicles were in fact delivered from PAS Corporation's City of Industry facility to the dealership delivery location; where they in turn would proceed to their respective dealerships for sale to the end customer. Obviously there were many vehicles that left PAS directly for delivery to Indianapolis, IN. I have that background information and records as well.

I have done a quick review of the last 18 months for TTA sales. It is pleasing to know that prices have moved up significantly, clearly in preparation for the 20 year old mark. Limited production car history has shown that prices can substantially change around an age of 20 years. It is theorized that collectors will purchase a vehicle a few years prior to the 20 year old mark looking for that upward movement. This line of reasoning also includes awareness that "evaluation period" for the long term desirability of a particular limited production vehicle is between 20-25 years post production.

A brief look at the recent Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction revealed a 1987-1988 Trans Am GTA, of no special heritage, selling for over $30,000. When new, that vehicle was less than $20,000 and one of approximately 8,000 produced. The GTA vehicle, like so many others at the Scottsdale auction, was represented with detailed, collector oriented documentation. As a side note, that less than 20 year old Trans Am GTA was not 100% stock parts, far from it.

The wonderfully detailed information on our 1989 Turbo Trans Am that I previously mentioned will place both the owner and the vehicle in high regard within collector circles. Unique in this circumstance, since of no other Manufacturer of Origin kept VIN number specific sequential records to this level of detail. Clearly, this highly complete VIN number build information will boost a vehicle's value by 20%-100% at auction. Even the highest mileage, less well conditioned TTA should increase value by thousands of dollars with this documentation. Those TTA vehicles without this documentation will obviously be left behind in obtaining top market value.

My intention is to make this information available to you, the owners. I will be posting a form that you may mail in with your Vehicle description (T-Top Leather, T-Top Cloth, Hardtop Leather, Hardtop Cloth) VIN number, your name, address, email address, phone contact and payment for this researched service. The list of information you will receive is lengthy and detailed but not limited to the following:

Vehicle Sequence Number
Engine Sequence Number
Transmission Sequence Number
Engine Serial Number
Transmission Serial Number
All dates of Assembly
All dates of delivery points
Dealership of Delivery
Discrepancy list
****Dozens of other VIN# specifics, to be explained on order form

I will be posting a order form in the near future explaining each and every bit of information you will receive. It will be my pleasure to assist in defining your collector vehicle and to watch its value soar. Should you need to contact me directly, I can be reached at the contact information below.

Best wishes

so is the information that we will be recieving an original copy of the paperwork, a photocopy of the original, or just the information typed up?

WOW!!!! Thank You SO MUCH!!!
If there is anything i can do to help you with the forms and what not, please let me know I as well as Jim "im sure" will be more then happy to help in any way!!!

Thank You again...

As I stated the information is held by large computer generated forms as well as each vehicle's particular assembly issues annotated separately. Therefore you will receive this information in a certified document format.

Best wishes,

Rich

Sounds good to me Rich! :) I'm a big nut when it comes to this stuff. I got lucky when I first bought my TTA I won a press pack on ebay. The guy said he worked for Pontiac on the TTA project and sent me a pile of paper work of mainly numbers and notes back and forth from the delaers from Pontiac. Some pretty cool stuff. One of these days I'll have to copy it all as well but this collection of goodies your going to offer sounds really sweet! Can't wait to see it! Like Chris said keep us up to date on the forums here as this is the only forum just for the TTA's! Thanks again for sharing! 90% of the time information like that gets tossed into a dumpster at the end of a project!

This is not simply informtion, but rather the official original copies of all the build/project information. Fortunately it was not burned in the Dumpster, but rather held for vehicle documenting at a latter date. You should be not only presently surprise but somewhat shocked at what was preserved. Perfect timing to receive this information just prior to the 20 year old mark, whereafter the vehicle will begin to make it's collector status move and desireability check. I will be posting the Information Request Form here first and then move to eBay for those owners that do not frequent this site. After we have provided detailed documentation to 50 owners from this site, a significant money contribution will be paid to the website/forum owner to further enhance support of the TTA vehicles and compensate him for years of loyal, dedicated service to all TTA owners.

Best wishes,

Rich

This great stuff Rich, thanks for all your work on this. This next few years are gonna be the best for any TTA owner.

Roy

Cheers Rich, let us know when to proceed and also I guess we all are interested in the cost for this service?

Rich,
Welcome to the site. It has been a while since you have shared your resources with us. Great find and "hekka cool" service you are willing to share!

Did you ever sell that super nice 88 NotchBack GTA?

I just hung up from a long phone conversation with a bidder from the 2007 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. He said that documentation was one of the key items along with vehicle uniqueness, low production numbers and unrestored or restored condition. The vehicles that did the best were highly documented, unrestored, low production number, orginal presentations. Modified vehicles did well; again with low production numbers and documentation.

Upon receipt of your information request forms, it will take many hours to extract your TTA's data from the large grouping of production information forms, reports and records. The report document you receive will have a seal and be certified for its authenticity. A record will be kept of your Vin request and report for verification by another individual/buyer/investor/collector. You will be receiving a great deal of information to substantiate the originallity and history of your vehicle. Clearly, the 1989 Turbo Trans Am is finally gaining in value and a current owner is sure to benefit by representing his/her vehicle accurately. Engine, Transmission, etc. will be easy to verify as being original.

See the attached form to order VIN TTA Information.

Those individuals preparing to purchase a 1989 Turbo Trans Am, may have questions about the originality of a engine or transmission along with Dealership of Delivery, etc. Buyers will now have a source to confirm accurate representation of the vehicle. Information will be provided via phone. Simply call the number below to coordinate receipt of the specific information you require.

Best wishes,

Rich

am I reading that right, that it's $500 for the information? I realize it's time consuming and everything but for that much I would like to atleast see some pictures of what I'm going to be receiving. I see the list of everything but some of it I'm not sure what it actually is like the Discrepancy list.

Rich, just to be clear. Would we receive the original documents, copies of them or your summary of what is on these documents?

I guess the best solution to answer alot of questions would be to post photos of what we get. Maybe Rich already has his info and can share exactly what we get...
Just a thought..

I have provided a list of the information you will be receiving along with an explanation of where the data is held. I have cut and pasted below from a post above.

"Upon receipt of your information request forms, it will take many hours to extract your TTA's data from the large grouping of production information forms, reports and records. The report document you receive will have a seal and be certified for its authenticity. A record will be kept of your Vin request and report for verification by another individual/buyer/investor/collector."

Again, the data is held in large and lengthy computerized reports with hundreds of VINs per report. Each report varies in type of data displayed (engine reports, transmission reports, sequencing reports, delivery and shipping reports, on and on...). Data is also held in numerous notebooks and data sheets.
What you will be receiving, I have covered in a prior post. I have cut and pasted it below for your understanding.

"The report document you receive will have a seal and be certified for its authenticity."

The report document you receive will be representative of all the information extracted from the forms and documents. It will include the following:

Vehicle Order Number:
VIN Build Sequence:
Van Nuys Sequence:
PTM Sequence:
Engine Serial Number:
Transmission Serial Number:
Pay Date:
Inspect Date:
COI Receive Date:
COI Ship Date :
COI Shipper Number:
Ship to Dealer Number:
Power Train Sequence Number:
Engine Number:
Transmission Number:
Engine/Transmission Build Date:
PTM Ship Date:
PTM Shipper Number:
Dealership Name and Address:
PAS Received Date:
PAS Ship Date:
Vehicle Discrepancies/Repairs:

To answer the one gentleman's question concerning the discrepancy items. This is data that was held on each and every vehicle as it was inspected, evaluated and sometimes repaired subsequent to it leaving the Van Nuys plant and arriving at PAS Inc. in City of Industry. There were plenty of discrepancies and shipping damage. Naturally these records do not contain information concerning damage to a particular vehicle after it left PAS Inc. City of Industry for Dealership Distribution. Those damages/discrepancies would be handled by the dealership of delivery and recorded at there respective locations.

Sadly, over the past 18+ years, very few if any TTA owners have received accurate and therefore useful information about their pride and joy. Imagine attempting to purchase a muscle car of any type where accurate documentation is available and the the seller does not have it. Think of the following vintage of automobliles commanding attractive prices; Corvette, Chevelle, Camaro, any MOPAR, Mustangs, Shelby vehicles, etc. Certainly no informed buyer would purchase a collector vehicle without accurate documentation. Be thankful we now have a source for this information. Without this information, our vehicles become one that is not invited to the big dance of collector cars. This is what we have all wanted for years. It is obvious the difference it has made in my own case to have all the records from day one of the three protoypes I am so fortunate to own.

If you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to call 678-427-0017. I look forward to serving your requests.

Best wishes,

Rich

Rich, for me with the milage I have on my car it would make no difference with or without the information if I where to sell it .... it would only be interesting for me from a history / research point of view but not for $500 USD unfortunatly.

I'm still curious to see a sample of what you actually get, anyone who bought this info?

I agree, even though it may help the value on my car a little I'm not interested in selling it at any point during my life. I'd like to have the information but being a broke college student it's very difficult to swing $500 especially for something like this. I realize that you probably have some overhead costs to overcome, but you'll get a lot more orders from the normal Joe in the TTA community at a lower price.

I'd do it right now for $300 bucks. Hands down. $500 just seems to be a big pill to take.

Documention works on Muscle cars of old, with regular vins.
However, our cars, the 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am, already has the vin stamped with the "5".
The only car to get this was a 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am.
Only one engine was used.
Also, these cars came from the factory with the RPO codes listed in the center console.
Cars missing this, will still sell for a very good price.
As there were only 2 options availible, I don't see the point of spending 500 bucks for this info.
Sure, you get more than what PHS gives, but to me and others, it's not worth 500 dollars.
As I already have this info on my car, I didn't have to pay for it.
I remember hearing that a Buick Grand National Club had all this info, and Scott Kelly gave the info to them to post up so everyone could get their info.
Sure, it would have taken time and a large effort, I would have waited longer for it. As would others.

My take,

George

Ok I didnt want to post this, but others have seemed to agree. How about this. Whoever wants one can send me $20 bucks and I'll buy a printer and lots of paper. Then I'll personally ship the printer to you, (after you are done you can keep it) with extra ink, paper, whatever, and we will pay a little for the overhead you have. I don't expect you to give it away but $500!!! I need a spoiler first

I'd like to see some pictures of this kit your making up. I'd also love to have it but $500 is way out my range as well. Not saying it's not worth it just a bit on the high side. It seems I have a good number of that info already. Some rare pictures would be awesome in the kit as well.. like these..
