Question - Best front jacking location & jack stand locations

In the near future I expect to be putting my TTA up on jack stands to do some work on it. It will probably be sitting up on the stands for awhile.

What's the "best" location in the front of the car to jack it up using a floor jack, and the "best" location to put jack stands?

In the rear, I've always jacked using the differential and put jack stands under the axle (on each side).

There are cutouts in the body under the doors that indicate where a floor jack should be positioned. I've never put my car on jack stands.

Thanks for the reply....I have a factory shop manual, but I guess I missed that info when I looked through it. Typically I've used ramps to drive the front up on, but I'll need to put a new exhaust system on at some point and I figure it will be easier if the whole car is up on jack stands.

I just had my car up on stands most of last winter and spring. I put them under the lower control arms up front, and on the axle tube in the back.

If you are doing exhaust, you may want your axle hanging free, so the rear stands may need a different location.

Just stay away from the pinch weld flanges on the body.8.jpg

Thanks Dyno Dave....last time I dropped the fuel tank I put the stands under the rear axle as I recall, but that's been a few years. What exhaust system did you get? I need to start getting serious about that for my car, because it definitely needs one.

I should add that I'm still trying to decide whether to buy some truck jack stands that will raise the car up higher because I expect to be dropping the transmission at some point. Based on what other members on the list have posted in response to my earlier questions, my existing jack stands might not quite get it high enough to get the trans out without it being too tight when it comes to clearance. I hate buying things just for the sake of it, but my experience has been that having the right tools always seems to help make the work go smoother.

Sorry, I didn't do exhaust on my car yet. It was up in the air for brakes and suspension work. Having it at ride height on the jack stands seemed beneficial to me for what I was doing.

I have an SLP stainless headers/MagnaFlow stainless N10 dual cat/Borla stainless cat-back system that I need to put in, and when I do that I'll want the rear stands under the rear subframes somewhere, so the axle can hang down, aiding exhaust removal.
